I've never "dieted" before, but that's largely due to the fact that I'm completely addicted to food and can't fathom the thought of limiting my options. (Granted, I'm also really blessed to have great genetics that make it easier to be lax about food). I do, however, modify my consumption for nutritional reasons quite frequently.
Most recently, I've started eating raw. You heard me, R-A-W. I'm not talking about anything cannibalistic - I definitely cook my meats first (unless it's sushi) - I'm talking about packing my meals full of uncooked FRESH produce. If I was really die hard about it, it'd basically be a vegan diet, but I'm not opposed to eating stuff that comes from animals - as long as it's USDA certified organic and antibiotic free (among other things).
BENEFITS OF EATING RAW
More bang for your buck. Cooking foods above 118 F for 3 mins or longer destroys vital enzymes, coagulates proteins (making them difficult to assimilate), destroys or damages up to 90% of vitamins and nutrients, restructures pesticides into even more toxic compounds, depletes valuable oxygen, and produces free radicals.
Increased mental clarity. With all those extra nutrient and vitamins, you'll feel much more alert and awake throughout the day. So, move over 5-hour energy drink.
More flavor. As much as I love using spices, you really won't find you need them as much - especially salt and pepper. Your tastebuds will thank you!
Quicker cleanup. I loathe doing the dishes, even with the convenience of the dishwasher, but with fresh produce all you need is a little rinse and you're done (clean a little more thoroughly if you're eating meat and dairy products).
Little/No packaging. Rip off that little PLU # sticker, rinse and eat. You'll also be amazed at how long you can go without taking out the trash this way.
There's a whole slew of other advantages, from anti-aging, internal healing and the ever popular weight loss. If you're up for making a few changes, I definitely recommend it!
